Three days before she was due to fly back, she had received a text message from him, asking if she had made any arrangements coming back from the airport. If not, would she like him to pick her up instead?
When she rang him back, she got directed to his voicemail. She didn't leave a message and hung up. Later, she got a message saying that he was busy at the moment and that he would call her back later. For the remainder of her day, she found herself stealing glances at her phone, wondering when it was going to ring.
Fast forwarding to the day of her departure from home... despite being tired from having only a mere hour and a half of sleep the night before the wedding, followed by an additional three the day before she was due to fly for the next eight hours, she could not wait to see him again.
She had pretty much slept her way flying across the Pac!f!c Ocean, ignored the food that was being served and had only woken up an hour before the plane was due to land to freshen up.
Coming out of the Arrival Gates, at the top of the ramp, she quickly scanned across the room in search of him. She didn't see him. For a brief moment, she wondered if he might have been stuck in traffic? When she got to the bottom of the ramp, she tried looking for his face amongst the crowd for the second time. Just then she saw a familiar figure moving out from behind the crowd, and her heart skipped a beat...
She started to parallel-ly move along with that figure, waiting for whoever-he/she-was to emerge from the crowd. Her eyes lit up when she saw him stepping out and towards her, waving and breaking out into a big smile. She pushed her cart forward and made her way towards him, unable to contain the smile that had crept upon her face the minute her eyes saw him.
By the time they got back into her place, it was past midnight. Together with a cup of tea each, they settled down onto her couch, sipping their tea in silence as their bodies relaxed and sank further into the couch.
'Ahhhh....', and they looked at each other with a silly grin on their faces.
Suddenly, she remembered something and excused herself to 'ransack' her luggage. When she finally came back into the living room, she found him fast asleep on her couch.
It had been a long day for the both of them and she knew it. Even though he only lives two traffic lights and three streets away from herself- literally, she didn't want to risk him driving and falling asleep on the wheel, so she invited him to stay for the night.
