Pony and I took our two newest addition to the household (can't use the word "family" till it is official) McFuff & Wallace, our gu!nea p!gs out on their first camping trip with us. Despite a bumpy ride out to the campsite, they survived while I didn't!
While setting up the tent in the dark, Pony heard the cry of a fox, a cry which I had mistook for a dog's, and warned me to keep a watchful eye on McFluff & Wallace. Naturally they slept in the tent with us, in their makeshift carry box (we've yet to buy them a proper one) as Pony and I made silent scary shadow stories on the ceiling of our tent.
The next morning Pony made McFluff and Wallace a playpen out of branches, logs and such. It didn't take Wallace long to realise that she* could easily climb over the logs to explore even further. Soon after I took pictures of them eating and exploring their new surroundings, Wallace scampered over the playpen so quick that I barely even had time to call out to Pony for help. When I did finally 'whimpered' out for help, having just lost my voice two days before, Pony and I spent the next half an hour trying to catch Wallace while keeping an eye on McFluff, who was still in the playpen, completely oblivious to all the excitment that was happening around her.
Carrying Wallace out of the box that Pony had trapped her in, Pony looked up and pointed at the sky. There in the sky were two e@gles flying around in circles just not too far away from where we were. They had seen McFluff and Wallace and was waiting.
Gathered both McFluff and Wallace up in my hands, I brought them back into the safety of the tent, into their carry box and proceeded to make another playpen inside the covers of the tent instead.
For the second that day, Wallace escaped, inside the sealed up tent.
By nightfall, a gale had started, with the storm quickly approaching towards where we were. We attempted to brave the night through, but when the tent had collapsed only an inch away from our faces for the third time that night as we were huddling under the blankets, Pony and I burst out laughing (well, I was laughing soundlessly) and made a hasty retreat with McFluff and Wallace, tent and all, and headed straight back for civilisation.
* Yes, I know that 'Wallace' is a boy's name, but I didn't name her!
